Music Teacher Gift

My son had a music performance at school that we attended last week. Normally my son doesn't really participate in the songs. My husband taught him to mouth "Watermelon" so that the audience thinks he's singing but normally he just looks bored up on stage. Well, to my shock and excitement, this concert was different. Not only did he sing but he did all the hand and body movements for the song as well. I wanted to stand up and start clapping an yelling "That's MY BOY!" when I saw him, but I did contain myself.....barely.

After the concert I went right up to the music teacher and told her how wonderful I thought she was and how proud I was of my son. Any teacher that can get my son to crawl out of his hole and do what he did deserves a huge STAR!!!

Well, since I didn't think I gave enough praise to her on that particular day, I decided to make her a little something that my son could take to her at school. This is what I came up with:

(I used a poem I found on the internet and changed it a bit so that it pertained more to the music teacher than a regular teacher. I filled with regular M&M's to go with the poem.)

So my husband is a Crystal Light (of course we buy the knock off cuz it's cheaper!) fan and we buy it all the time. I decided to start saving the containers and have a HUGE pile of them but I knew they would come in handy, and I was right!! Here's what I used for my gift!

I was surfing Pinterest the other day and saw an awesome wall decoration idea that I knew I had to copy. I have a blank wall in my daughter's room and have been waiting to find something I love....and I found it!

There is one hanging on the wall for each girl. They love to read it and know the facts of their birth! They were a lot of fun to make and create. I bought some cheap frames at the dollar store (11 x 14) and painted them white. Then I put the printed facts on a piece of poster board that I cut to fit in the frame and then made a border out of matching scrapbook paper and my paper punches!

Halloween bags

I decided to make some Halloween bags for my kids. I found an orange flat sheet at Walmart and cut it up to make 5 bags. I then bought some Halloween fabric when it was 60% at JoAnns and sewed it on right in the middle. I let my kids pick the Halloween fabric they wanted for their bag so everyone would know which bag was there. The bags were a hit! Now I don't have to worry about what they'll be using for Trick or Treating for the next several years!

Cape and Mask

My daughter was invited to a Birthday Party for a little boy and I really wanted to make something for him. I found a great tutorial for a cape and mask and went to work. Here's the final product:

I made the cape reversible so he could which ever color he wanted on the outside.

More Dresses

I cut out three wood dress tops so I finally finished the other two. Not sure which one is my favorite. I really like them all. I felt like I was designing a dress when I was making these. It was so much fun! I'm thinking about selling them but not sure yet.

Bags

I've been in the bag making mood lately! Here are a couple I've made:

My MOMS Club is hosting a "Pink Party" to help raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness and one of the things they are going to do is have a silent auction. I volunteered to make a few things to auction off. This bag will be one of the items.

My friend has been attending a bible study class and didn't have a bag to carry all of her books in, so I found some place mats that I had bought about 2 years ago and whipped her up a bag!

Princess Dress

This is one of those projects that I've been wanted to make but have never got around to it. Well, I finally put time aside and did it. I was a bit intimidated by this project and I'm not sure why. I think it was because I would have to cut the wood dress top out and I have never done that before. It was a lot easier than I thought!

After sanding down the top of the dress I modged podged scrapbook paper on to it. I decided to add a little lace to the top as well.

Then I cut all my tulle and got out my handy dandy staple gun and went to work. All the tulle is stapled to the wood! Then I added the ribbon for the hair accessories to be clipped to.

Last thing I did was drill the holes in the shoulders and used wide white ribbon to hang it up!

Halloween countdown

Halloween is a favorite in our house! I've been wanting to do a Halloween countdown for some time now but just couldn't make a decision on what kind I wanted to make. Well, I finally made up my mind and I went for it!

I used black puffy paint to put the numbers on and then decorated the pockets with different Halloween stuff.

The Halloween sign is chip board with paper modged podged on and then I cut the letters out in black vinyl.

I'm able to fit 5 tootsie rolls in each pocket!! Perfect treat for my 5 kids!

Gamer

My husband has a co-worker that he has become good friends with and that co-worker's wife just had a baby boy. One thing that my husband and this co-worker have in common is that they both love to play console and computer games. These kind of people are often called gamers and they are very proud of that title. So, I decided to make something for the baby that would please my husband's friend.

I cut a stencil out with my cricut using freezer paper and then ironed the freezer paper on to the onsie. Then I used fabric paint and sponged the paint over the stencil. I accidentally got some paint on the onsie so instead of throwing it away and starting over, I decided to put dots all over it and cover up my mistake.

I found this plain blue jogging suit at the store and decided to put a patch on it to go with the onsie. I did dots again to match the onsie.

Patriotic Outside Decor

I was at Hobby Lobby yesterday buying stuff for my wreath and saw a couple of huge bows for sale in the floral department. I thought to myself...I think I can make one of those! The netting ribbon that they used for it was really expensive, so I went over to the fabric dept. and bought some yardage of red, white and blue netting.

It was really easy & didn't take long. Hobby Lobby had their tulle 50% of this week...bonus! I wanted to put 3 silver stars on it, but the ones I bought were too big, so I settled for one. I love how it turned out!

Service Opportunities (aka CHORES)

I made this chore board using a magnetic white board and black pinstripping tape. I decided to call the chores "service opportunities" in hopes that my boys would be more willing to do them (lol!). That didn't seem to make a difference, but I think it sounds better. :D

I have a file of blank chore sticks. I typed all of the chores that I wanted done in a cute font onto the chore sticks. Then I printed them onto scrapbook paper, cut them out & mod podged them onto the actual tongue depressor sticks. I got this idea from How Does She? and then tweaked it to make it my own.

Quilt for the new bed

I wanted to make my daughter a new quilt for her new bed and found a great deal on flannel at JoAnn's. I LOVE bright colors and since she had no preference on the fabric I went with what I like! So I did 10x10 squares of 5 different fabrics and sewed them all together. I used white flannel for the back and then tied the quilt with multicolor yarn . I made the back of the quilt 2 inches bigger on every side so I could just fold it over and make a border for the quilt. Here's the quilt on her bed:

Desk #2

My second desk was a little more work. The top of the desk was cracked so I had to pop it off, buy a new piece of wood and glue/nail it on. Then I had to do extra sanding cuz the desk was a nasty yellow color!

I was very please with how it turned out and so was my daughter! She sat at the desk for a very long time when we moved it up to here room!

I think I have a thing with matching! I wanted the desk to match the dresser I redid for her so, again, I used the same scrapbook paper to modge podge on.

I've been on a 'refinishing' kick lately and decided to refinish some old desks that I bought at the thrift store. My girls have been asking for desks so I got busy and got my craft groove on. I failed to take before pictures but here is the after picture of the first desk:

She really wanted a pink desk so I indulged her and went with it!

Here she is at her new desk doing her "work". She loves it!

So I wanted the desk to match the bedside table and shelf I re-did for her so I used the same scrapbook paper to decorate it (on the drawers). Here's the table and shelf it did:

Family Birthdays

My kids are always asking when their cousins, aunts, uncles and Grandparents birthdays are so I decided that I need to make something to display everyone's birthdays and still make it fun for the kids. I was surfing craft blogs and came across the best thing EVER!!! I copied the idea, modifying it a bit and this is what it looks like:

Each little person is member of our family (my husbands side as well as mine). The little letters above the row of people is the first letter of the month they were born in. The number underneath their name is the day they were born.

I spray painted all the people with a cream color (for the skin) and then painted the dress on the girls and the pants & shirt on the boys with acrylic paint. The hair, eyes, their name and number is drawn on with a black sharpie. I then drilled a small hole in the top and bottom of the people and used a small rope to tie them together. That way, if I need to add another little person, I can just cut the rope and tie them together again.

Director's Chair

I found this old (but still in good shape) director's chair but it only had the back part, not the seat. I bought it for under $5 and decided to fix it up to put in my daughter's bedroom. Since it had the back, I just added a strip of material to it and used the same material to make the seat.

Hanging Book Display

Dresser re-do

We were in need of another dresser and I was at the thrift store and found the most ugliest dresser EVER for $7. My mind started going a mile a minute on how I could make it pretty! I bought it, brought it home and started the transformation. Of course, I didn't take a picture of it.....dumb, I know....cuz you would have been amazed at the before and after! But here is the after:

I sanded the dresser then painted it white. I then added scrapbook paper to the drawers and top with modge podge and then sealed it with clear spray. The nobs are wooden dowel tops that I sprayed and put on. Don't you love it???? The girls said, "Wow Mom it's like magic!".

Easter Decor

This only took me about 15 minutes to make. As always, the hardest part was picking out the paper. I have a few 5x7 frames sitting around and got the idea last night to whip up this decoration for Easter.

Tulip Spring Wreath

I love how it turned out...it was easy, although a bit time consuming. Here are the details...sorry no step by step pictures. Supplies:

wreath form (from a dollar store)

10 - 12 small tulip bud bunches

glue gun & glue sticks

wooden skewer wide

ribbon

I forgot to do this step, but you should wrap the wreath form with ribbon first so that if you have any spaces between your flowers, you won't see the ugly green wreath.

Next, take all of the flowers off of the stems leaving the little plastic thingy that attaches to the stem and helps the flower bud stay together. (Does that even make sense?!)

Use the skewer to poke a hole in the wreath. Put some glue on the bottom end of the flower and stick it into the hole. Repeat a gazillion times. I didn't put any flowers on the back of the wreath because I wanted it to lay flat against the door.

If you didn't get enough flowers and you went to all of the other dollar type stores in town and couldn't find more (like me!)...this is where the wide ribbon will come in handy. I had about a 3-4" blank space at the bottom of the wreath, so I wrapped the ribbon around it and made a big bow to cover it up.

Last step: fold a length of ribbon in half and hot glue it to the back of the wreath. Hang & enjoy!

Bathroom Sign

The main floor bathroom, in our house, is always missed and people just don't think to look there. So, I took care of that problem!

I bought a vinyl square at the Home Depot for $1.20. It is sticky on the back so I cut it in half and stuck the two halves together. I drilled holes in the top and cut the words out in black vinyl for the front and back!

I was going to use one of the flower pot hangers but those things are so dang expensive so I came up with my own solution. I bought the wooden plaque, dowel, and knobby thing at Hobby Lobby for a total of $3. Then I drilled a hole in the middle of the plaque and screwed the dowel in place. I used glue to put the knobby thing on the end. Afterwards, I spray painted it black!

AND....just in case our little visitors can't read, I'm hoping these signs will help them know where to go if they have to tinkle:

Favorite Store!

I LOVE the Wood Connection store! I hadn't been there for a very long time and my last trip to Utah I went CRAZY!! I won't tell you how much money I spent because I'm a bit embarrassed about it but everything I got was worth it!!

So I got these little wooden frames with wood shapes that go in them for each month. The first one I did was April. I painted the tulips and then smeared glue on top of them and sprinkled glitter on them (matching color of the the paint). I love how they turned out! They just make you smile every time you look at them. I hung it right by my door so you can smile on your way out the door!

(Do you like the scratch marks at the bottom of our door frame? Dang dog!!)

White Board Calendar

I've been feeling a bit unorganized lately and decided that I needed a family calendar to help me (and the fam) keep on schedule and organized. I thought about buying a large white board but couldn't believe how much the cost. I wasn't willing to spend that kinda of money for such a simple thing. So I did a little research and found out that the home improvement stores sell LARGE pieces of white board. So, I bought an 8 foot by 4 foot piece of white board for $10 and had them cut it for me. Since I had such a huge piece of white board now, I decided to have two months of activites on my wall instead of just one. I LOVE IT!!!

I hung the calendars in my hallway so it was hard to get a good picture:

I found these oval wood thingies at the dollar store and modged podged scrapbook paper on them and added vinyl lettering. Then I drilled a hole in them and hung them up!

Family Yahtzee

Here is another game I made for my brother's family for Christmas:
(I found a plain box at Micheal's and modged podged scrapbook paper on it and then cut the words out on black vinyl from my cricut.)

I made my own score sheets and only did the top half of a normal yahtzee score sheet because I was afraid the bottom part of the yahtzee score sheet would be to confusing for the young kids.)

I used small wooden blocks and modged podged scrapbook paper on each side and then modged podged a different picture on each side.)

My daughter turned four and we had a party for her today. I wanted to make her a shirt to wear for her party so here it is:

It's nothing fancy but she loved it. I got the shirt at the dollar store and cut the letters out on my cricut. Then I added the buttons in the middle and called it good!

Memory Family Game

I am the youngest of six kids and everyone is married with children so for Christmas we draw families instead of individual names to give gifts to. Well, this year I was doing homemade gifts for my brother and his family we drew and here is one of the gifts I did. It is a memory game. The pictures on the discs are members of the my family we were assigned to as well as pictures of grandparents on both sides. My brother has three young children so I thought this would be a great game for them.

I bought wood discs at Micheal's and printed pictures of the family members from my printer her at home. I painted the discs white and used my 1 1/4 hole punch to make the pictures round. I modged podged the pics on the discs on one side and scrapbook paper (punched out by my 1 inch hole punch) on the other side. I made a matching box to go with the game as well.

I have been struggling with thinking (or finding) ideas for decorating my girl's bedroom. They have white walls and nothing on them. Well one night while couldn't sleep I thought of a great idea!! I know....seriously....I was amazed myself. I very rarely come up with my own ideas. Most of my crafts have come from others ideas that I altered to my liking but this idea...well....it's ALL MINE!! It'd be my luck if it was actually done by someone else and I just don't know it. oh well, I'm going to share it with you anyway and hope that you like it!

I wanted something to bring a lot of color in the girls room and still stick with the "princess" theme they all adore. So here is what I came up with:

I used a 18' by 18' board and modged podged squares (I cut them 2' by 2') of paint samples to make the checkered design. At the end I had a little bit of the board showing on two of the edges so I decided to add a black border. Then I cut out silhouettes of Cinderella and Prince Charming, and Sleeping Beauty on my cricut using black vinyl and slapped them on the board. VIOLA!!!! SO DANG EASY!!

Capes and Crowns

I have four girls and wanted to add to their 'dress up' box so I made them capes and crowns for Christmas:

I got the pattern for the capes from here: Cape Pattern It was a very EASY pattern and one that anyone could do!

I found this tutorial for Felt Crowns and did mine a little different but the idea is the same. The girls really loved them and played in them most of day. I was sure proud of myself as I watched them walk around like real princesses. I love to make them things because they think I'm the best sewer EVER (they don't need to know how many mistakes I make)!

I decided to modge podge a piece of scrapbook paper on the front of the board instead of just spray painting it, and I used the same font for everything instead of mixing it up.

Easy, Cute & Poofy Valentine Wreath

I made this wreath from a heart shaped wire wreath form & yards & yards of red tulle. Here's how I did it:

Supplies:
heart wire wreath form (Hobby Lobby, $1.99)
big fat roll of red tulle (also Hobby Lobby, 40 yd. spool, $5.99) Actually this one roll wasn't quite enough for me, so I went back to get more and found a 100 yd. spool of red (it matched the red that I was using) Christmas tulle at 90% off...it was a buck! Ooh, I wished I'd found that the day before when I was there purchasing the $5.99 roll of tulle!

Anyway, I just cut the tulle into 2 1/2 to 3 inch pieces (no measuring, just eyed it) and tied them onto all the wires of the wreath form. I just tied the tulle once, not twice to make a knot. Since it's netting, it seemed to hold just fine with one tie. I bet I used atleast 60 yards of tulle, but you could get away with less if you don't want your wreath quite as poofy as mine. Give it a try...easy, cute & poofy!

Dollar Store Stars

I saw this great idea on another blog but I can't remember where....so if the person who had this great idea ever makes it to my blog, please forgive me for not mentioning your blog! These stars are from the dollar store and they are very light (and flimsy) but worked perfect for what I wanted to use them for.

I found some great scrapbook paper that matched perfect in my living room and went to work cutting, modge podging and hanging!! Yep, it was that easy!

And then I hung them above the picture holders I made the other day!!

Homemade Apothecary Jars

I've been wanting to get some apothecary jars to put on one of my shelves but I couldn't believe how expensive they were. So, I started visiting a butt load (is that an ok word to use?) of blogs and found tons of great ideas on how to make your own. I went to Hobby Lobby and found all the stuff I needed to make them. I LOVE Hobby Lobby!!!

Here's what what I used to make them:

I used 4 round pieces of wood (two were larger than the others for the bottom), two wood candle stick holders. two mason jars, and two wooden finials I found at hobby lobby. I glued the stuff together, spray painted them black, and sanded the edges a little and VOILA....

I don't know if I like the rocks in them or not but that's what will stay until I find something I really like to put in them. Both of these jars together cost me about $12. Isn't that great!!

Photo Holders

I needed something to put on my fireplace mantel since I took down all my Christmas stuff and I found this cute tutorial and wanted to try it. I couldn't find the exact items she used for her photo displays but I think my turned out pretty darn cute.

I used small wooden candle holders for the bottom and then turned them upside down and used them for the top of the holders as well. I could not find small wooden finials anywhere and the ones I found online were way to expensive so I improvised and am happy with how it looks. I used a dark stain for the edges, and the wooden decorations on the front but it doesn't show up very well in the photo. I might add a little more to make it stand out.

I love the way it looks with black and white photos because my living room is has a lot of black accents so it works out well. Now I need to make something to go above the pictures, so stay tuned to see what I do!

Stockings and holders

One of the projects my sister and I did, while she was here visiting me, was make Christmas stockings and stocking holders for my kids. I let the girls pick the fabric for their stockings and then I made them. I made a special stocking for my son and he seemed to LOVE it:

As most of you know, stocking holders are DANG EXPENSIVE! So, I found a great TUTORIAL and just changed it up a bit so I could put the name of my kids on the holders.

Curtain Rod Wall hanging

I've been wanting to try something new to display my children's pictures and I found this cute idea on another blog. I finally got around to getting the pictures developed and buying my curtain rod. I am so happy with how it turned out!!

I found some AWESOME ribbon at Hobby Lobby that matched the twirly metal ends of my curtain rod and then found the wall hooks that holds the rod up at Hobby Lobby too!! My frames are from the Dollar Store and I sprayed them black. I dug my cricut out of my mess in craft room and cut the vinyl out for the words above the pictures.

Menu Board

My sister flew to Colorado to visit me and we crafted it up!!! I'm still in the process of taking pics of everything I did so stay tuned for lots of posts. One of our projects was a menu board that I found on a blog I frequent often and I knew I had to make it for my house. So, my sister and I whiped it out and I LOVE the way it turned out and how great it looks on my kitchen wall. My kids think it's great too, because now they don't have to ask me what's for dinner cuz my response is always, "Something good". They hate that response!!

My board was 47 inches by 32 inches, so it was quite large but just right for me. I used chalkboard paint for the squares and I used watered down acrylic white paint for the background. Then I finished it up with vinyl letters cut from my cricut!! Here is the blog that I copied this idea from: BLOG

I just realized that I took the picture before I fixed the "E" in Wednesday. Pretend that it's there!! Oh, and you're all probably wondering why I don't have Friday on the board. Well, Friday is ALWAYS Pizza and movie night so no need to write it down every week so I left it off the board.

Bow Tie

I love bow ties. Ok, so they are hair dorky but dorky is cute sometimes!! I decided to make one for me son to see how easy they were and boy, were they easy!!! I will be making more, that's for sure!

I would normally use a rectangle piece of velcro but velcro dots is all I had on hand.

I love the layered look on the actual bow. It makes it stand out more, I think!

I saw this great First Aid roll up on another blog and decided I had to try it! I LOVE IT, and it was very easy to make.

It has a zipper pocket for things, elastic to hold medicine or antibiotic ointment and a small pocket area for bandaids.

And here it is folded up and ready to be put in your purse or diaper bag!!!

I thinkI might make several of these and try and sell them at my next craft fair. Would you buy one?

Craft Fair

My friend, Tammy, asked me if I wanted to participate in a craft fair and since I've never done one I, of course, said yes! The fair was scheduled for two weeks after we moved to Denver so I had very little time to make things but I think it turned out ok. Here is what I made:

Isn't this great?? You can countdown to what ever holiday, event or activity you want. Just put it on a piece a paper and clip it with the clothes pin and start counting down!

I made these "gumball machines" but they weren't a very big hit at the craft fair. I thought they were adorable but guess I was the only one. I guess I'll give them away as gifts :).

These crayon rolls were my biggest sellers!! I am going to have to make more of these for my next fair!

These are cones filled with rice krispy treats, dipped in white chocolate and sprinkles. Don't they look so good??!? They tasted great too!

Halloween Subway Art

A few days ago, I helped my friend by cutting vinyl for her girls' bedroom. The walls are painted with a granny smith apple green. The flowers are two different colors of pink. Chore Blocks

These chore blocks are made using hollow 3" wood blocks that have been painted, sanded, inked and modge podged with scrapbook paper. The blocks are sitting on a 2x4 that has also been painted, sanded, etc. I used my Cricut to cut the vinyl for the letters. I'm trying to think of a few inspiring words to put on the 2x4...something like "love at home" or "many hands make light work" to inspire cheerful cleaning. Any ideas?

I have 4 boys, but since my oldest is going off to college next week he doesn't have to be assigned chores at home any more...maybe I should make a block for him anyway and make interchangeable initials for it (A for Adam when he's home, G for guest that come to visit, and most importantly DH for dear husband!)...I need all the help I can get with my lame housekeeping abilities!

I saw a tutorial on how to make a car roll up and decided to do it even though I don't have any little boys (my only son would think he was too old for it!) to REALLY appreciate it. I do have to say, though, that my three year old (Kaia) loves to play with cars so she was excited when I finished it.

Flower Clips

Wow, sorry for the lack of posting. I didn't have my camera for a bit which got me out of the habit of taking a picture of my projects, but I'm back. I was on a flower clip making frenzy today. I bought the flowers at the dollar store and found these cloth covered brads at Roberts Crafts on their clearance shelf!! So I think each flower probably cost be about 25 cents! I hot glued white felt on the back before I glued the clip on. I find that if you do that it secures the flower better.

One of my inspirations for my creativity is my sister, Beck! She put the creativity bug in me and keeps it going by inspiring me with her great ideas and creations. I'm excited to make this blog a combination of her ideas/creations and mine. I know you all will enjoy the great projects that she shares here! I changed the title of the blog (if you haven't noticed already) because I wanted it to be about her and me instead of just me. Our Dad and Mom (but mostly our Dad) called us "Sis" and sometimes "Sister Sue" when we were growing up. Our Dad passed away about a year ago so I guess you can say that we are dedicating our little blog to him!

Ok, well I was visiting my family in Utah last week and when I got home I realized that I left my camera there. AWWWWWWW!! I have so many projects that I finished but can't share them because I can't take a picture. I'm hoping to get the camera back very soon. I have never had a good experience with homemade ice cream. I can remember doing it a couple of times when I was a kid, with my family, and it always tasted like ice milk....YUK!! Well I was going through my list of blogs I visit everyday and found this recipe for homemade ice cream with no ice cream machine needed!!! Yes, that's right...NO MACHINE NEEDED! Well, today is my daughter's Birthday so I decided to give it a try. It takes about 10 minutes to make but takes about six hours to freeze, so don't think you can make it and eat it right away. And for all you health nuts out there (I really wish I was you!) this is not a recipe for you!

Daddy's Shirt

Thayne has several shirts in his closet that he just doesn't' wear for whatever reason so I decided to go shopping in the closet and look for something I could use to make another dang cute dress for my girls. I saw a blog where they made a dress out of a man's shirt so I decided to give it a try.

I found an old dress that the girls hardly wear (cuz it has tons of stains on it) to use as a pattern for the new dress I was making. I cut around the dress leaving about an inch for seam allowance, and then started to sew. I used the extra material to make my own bias tape so I could put it around the neck and arm holes. No hemming was necessary, since I used the bottom of the shirt!!!

I made another outfit for the older girls (they wear the same size) and here is Indiya modeling it! She wore it to school and when she got home she said, "Momma, four people told me that my outfit was cute and I made sure to tell them that you made it!". I just love it that my girls are so excited to wear things I make. Josette asked me when I was going to "build" another outfit for her to wear!

The pattern that I used didn't have anything at the waist of the shirt but I felt like it was just not that flattering so I added some elastic which gave it just what I was looking for. I wanted the shorts a little longer then the pattern showed so I added a small cuff on the bottom of the shorts with the material I used for the shirt. I think it balanced the outfit out and was pleased with the end result!

Smores on a stick

My church group is trying to raise money for the Relay for Life event today and I offered to make something for their bake sale. I saw this idea on a blog I ran across (can't remember where) and wanted to make them for a while and decided this would a great thing to sell. They were so easy to make and they taste GREAT!!. I bought some Hersey chocolate bars and melted them in the microwave. Then I put a sucker stick in a marshmallow, dipped it in the chocolate and rolled in graham cracker crumbs. After I had several on a tray I put them into he freezer for about 10-15 minues, then I wrapped two of them together in a cellophane bag and tied them with a ribbon. I think they'll be able to sell them for a dollar a piece. Would you pay $1 for two Smores on a Stick?

Place mats

While at the local thrift store I saw these dang cute place mats and thought for sure I could make something out of them. I bought them for 50 cents a piece and bought 4 of them. They sat on my sewing desk for a while because I was imagining the different things I could make. Well, Josie finally asked me to make her something with the place mats so here it is:

I made a top and a skirt to match. I put some elastic on the back of the shirt to make it fit better and then added ties for the neck. For the skirt, I sewed the two placemats together at the sides, added elastic to the top and VIOLA!

Extra Fabric

I decided to cut some of my long jeans off to make them capris which meant that I had extra FABRIC to create something with. Well, I decided to make a cute skirt and top for Kaia. This is my first actual outfit I made without a pattern. I was very pleased with how it turned out! I usually make things for Josette and Indiya because I know that after they are done wearing them then Kaia and Zofiya will get them but I after I made the outfit I tried it on Indiya and it was too small, so guess who got it!! Kaia was THRILLED and danced around the house forever in her new outfit!

I have another friend that had a baby and decided to try out the technique and I think it worked GREAT!!! After I put the cricut appliques on the onsies I decided to add a little lace at the top.

Towel Dress

My kids have been taking swimming lessons which always means extra laundry. The girls want a dress to wear over their swim suits and then they drag a towel along as well. So, I decided to combine the two together and this is what I came up with:

I was at the thrift store and found some bathroom hand towels that I thought would work perfect for this project. I sewed the to hand towels together at the sides, added some elastic at the top, and used a washcloth for the straps on Kaia's dress (short girl) and used some extra pieces of the red towel to make shoulder straps for Josie's dress (tall girl).

Now, they wear these over their swimsuits to and from the pool, and as soon as we get home I hang up the towels to dry so they'll be ready for the next week. I do wash them periodically :). The girls love them!!

Baby gift

I've had a couple of friends bring a new baby in the world and I always like to give them a gift. I think it's more of an excuse to sew and create but I'd hate to admit to anyone that I was doing it for selfish reasons then the reason of giving, so I won't! I found a cute bib and doll pattern that I tried out and was so dang proud of myself when I finished it!! Even, my husband said, "Wow, you made those....they're awesome!". I know I've done well when I can get a response like that out of him!

The bibs and the doll took me about an hour to do. I think the hardest part was cutting the material out, only because I hate cutting material out! The doll is made out of flannel and the hair is just really thick yarn. I put a piece of felt in the middle of the bibs to make it a little firm.

I hate to admit it, but I lost my crafting mojo for a while. I've been busy with lots of different things and just haven't had the crafting spunk in me lately. But I think I found it!! I've been been a "card-makin, sewin-stuff woman lately.

I found a beautiful king size pillowcase that I love but it didn't match any of our bedding so I have been holding on to it FOREVER. Well, as I was surfing my craft blogs that I follow, I found this TUTORIAL for a pillowcase dress. I had to try it!

Isn't this so dang cute?!! I added the rick rack at the bottom to match the pink ribbon I used for straps. My husband thinks I need to do something wit the mid part of the dress but I like it the way it is and the girls LOVE it. They fight over wearing it so I better hit the goodwill/thrift store and find some more pillowcases. I bought this pillowcase for 99 cents, so after I was done making it, I think the dress end up costing me about $2.00.

Chalk

I really like using chalk. Aren't the colors of this card great! I used Versimark to stamp the image and then rubbed chalk over the image to make it pop! That's it! So very simple.

Ok, I was at the Dollar Store and found a package of 12 of these little box/bags in the wedding section. They were flat so you had to assemble them......well I bought TONS of them and last night I played around with one and look how dang cute it is!!

Since there was 12 of them in a package and the package cost $1 that makes them about 8 cents a piece. WOWZER!!! What a great find!! I don't make great finds like that very often but, dang, this one was AWESOME!!!

There are so many things you can do with these little bags. I love that the bags are white so that you can use any stamp with any color ink and not worry that it won't show up. Anyways...what do you think?

Buttons!

So I've taken a quick break from Close To My Heart stamps and moved to other favorites of mine. This card is made with a new embossing folder I got in the mail (Cuttlebug) and a roller stamp I used. I punched out the flowers with a small flower punch I have and randomly put on glued them on my stamp image!

Sprayer

This is a brand spankin new stamp set I got and I think it's darn pretty! I did a couple of cool techniques with this card. First, before I stamped that big image in the corner I sprayed it with water and then stamped it. I love the way it made it look (not sure if you can see it). Also, I used my crimper and crimped the bottom of the card. Doesn't that just look great!

I was looking through my massive heep of scrap paper and found this little strip of paper. I think it goes PERFECT with the image I stamped as well as the color! It was liking find a treasure!

This set is called "Delightful Things" and, again, is made by Close To My Heart! I'm a bit anxious to make a couple of more cards with this stamp set!

Embossing Folder

I would have to say that one of my most favorite tool in card making is my embossing folders from Cuttlebug! Every time I use one I fall in love with the card. It adds just something cool to the card! I think I own every single one the have made and I'm constantly looking for new
embossing folders that htey come out with!

I stamped these hearts and then cut them out. I mounted two of the hearts with 3-D glue dots and left the other heart flat. I stamped the word "Love" before I embossed the paper with hearts.

This stamp set is called "Heartfelt" and is made by Close To My Heart. Aren't the hearts so cool with all of their designs? I've made a couple of Valentines Cards with this set and loved them!

Little Boy

I found this pattern from another blog and ran across and now I can't find it. I love making cards that are shaped differently! Isn't this so dang cute! It was very easy to cut out and you can decorate it so many different ways.

I used the dragonfly on the pocket from a different stamping set than the one below but I plan on doing another card with it so you'll have to wait to see where it came from!

I just love this stamp set! Who ever designed this set dang creative, I think. I didn't have much time yesterday, so I went with a easy fast card but I still think it turned out great! The stamped words on the bottom of the card came from a different stamp set. So, I actually used two different stamp sets for this card!

If I had more time to play around with this card I would have cut out one or two of the balloons after I stamped them and put a 3-D glue dot under them to make them raised a bit.

This stamp set is called 'Birthday Bash' and it's by Close To My Heart! I really think it is one of their best birthday stamp sets and a must have!

Here's my card for today! This stamp set is another one that you can do so many things with and is used a lot! I love this paper too!

I used a little embossing folder to make the dotted frame around each of the stamped images. It gave it a bit more texture, I think. Aren't those flower brads so dang cute!

This stamp set is called 'Solo T' and (of course) is by Close To My Heart. Isn't great with all the different ways it says "Thank You"! Sooooooo many possibilities!

As most of you know my craft stuff has been in storage for over a year. Well in the box I packed my stamp pads in I purposely put the stamp pads upside down (because that's the way you are suppose to store them) and didn't realize that the new Close To My Heart stamp sets are already upside down, so in actuality I wasn't storing them upside down........does that make sense? Well in this card that I made I couldn't get the stamp perfect because of my ink pad but I REALLY wanted to use this color so I did it anyway. Normally the stamp would be completely colored and you wouldn't be able to see any speckles.

You probably can't see it but I outlined each leaf with a gold gel pen. It gave it an extra pop!

This stamp set is called Flourished Blessings and is by Close To My Heart. My only comment about this set is that I wish the leaves were smaller in size.

Layers

I think this is one of my favorite stamp sets! I love the flowers because they are so unique and the saying is nice! I used the vase from the stamp set I played with yesterday. I stamped it on my card first, then stamped another one, cut it out, used raised glue dots and put it right on top of the other vase. I love the layer look! It makes a simple card not so simple!

I like that the background stamp doesn't fit perfectly inside the lined stamp. So, yes, that is on purpose, it wasn't an accident :)>.

I wanted to go with something simple today but I just don't know if I like it. My card was almost to simple, I think. Because the card didn't satisfy my crafting mind I decided to use the same stamp set and make a bookmark. Now that I look at the card this morning, it's growing on me I think. I don't make simple cards very often because sometimes I just can't stop myself from adding more things to it but this time I put my foot down and stopped!

I wanted to have a card on hand for a friend that might be having a hard day. I think this one would be good to send. It's kinda of calming and says exactly what I would like to say to that friend.

Isn't this bookmark just darling? I used embossing powder after I stamped in on the bookmark, heated it up and TA DAH! I embossed the bottom part of the bookmark using my Cuttlebug and then took a flower punch and punched out the flowers where there was only a blank spot on the embossing pattern. I'll probably keep this one for myself!

The stamp set is called "With Love" and it's by Close To My Heart. You can do sooooo many things with this stamp set. My possibilities were endless. I think this will be one stamp set that I'll come back to often.

Lion Eyes!

I decided to make a fun card today! Who doesn't like to open a card and chuckle a little? This stamp set I used was a lot of fun. When I got it I thought it would just be used for any child's card I make, but as I was thinking of all the card possibilities I realized that I would totally send this to a friend. So here it is:

I used my pot a dot embossing folder (with my Cuttlebug) and did it backwards. The dots are suppose to bubble up, not be indented. I was so bugged that I wasted a piece of paper but then my son came in and said, "Oh, Momma that paper is so cool!". Thanks to him and his creative eye, I didn't waste any paper! I think it looks great backwards!!The googly eyes make the card so fun and will make the receiver chuckle for a second!

Isn't this an adorable set? Think of all the possible cards you could make with it!! The stamp set is called "Life's a Jungle" and again it is by Close To My Heart!

I'm Back!!

I can't believe it's been over a year since I last made any cards or other craft projects. I missed it so much! I think I told my husband, at least a billion times, that I missed my crafts. Well, we're settled in our new place with a new job and I'm ready to start my crafts! As I was unloading all of my many craft boxes and organizing my craft room....yes...I did say "MY CRAFT ROOM" I realized that I have a lot of stamp sets that I have never used not because I don't like them but because I'm just not sure what to make with them. Soooooo, I have decided to take one stamp set a day and make a card or project with it. Which means, that you have to come back once a day and see what stamp set I used and what I have created with it!

I'm not using any stamp sets in any order. I just close my eyes and grab one. Some of the stamp sets I'm using will cause me to ponder at my desk for a LONG time because I just don't know how to use it. I just ask that you give me a little break since I haven't been crafting in over a year! I have to tell you that when I organized my craft room I sat at my desk for a while feeling very overwhelmed and anxious. I was actually scared that I had forgotten how to do stuff, but I dove right in and was happy with my first creation. Here it is:

(Ok, so my camera stinks because it certainly can't be the camera person that does!) The "I miss you" stamp is actually stamped inside the card. I paper punched a little window so you could see it from the front of the card.

Here's the stamp set I used. It's called Whimsy Garden and it is produced by Close To My Heart. I love the acrylic stamps. You peel them off, put them on a clear stamping block, stamp your image exactly where you want because you can see through the stamp and the block onto your paper, clean it off and put it back on the plastic sheet.

So be honest and tell me what you think? Don't leave me hangin!

My husband is graduating from law school next week and then we're off on a 10 week adventure! I won't be able to stamp during that time.....which makes me so sad! All of my craft stuff will be boxed up and in storage. I thought I might be able to take it with us but with everything else that is going, there is no extra room. I have become a HUGE fan of a new stamp set company called 'PaperTrey Ink'. I have mentioned them before but I don't think I've done it enough! Their stamps are classy, easy to use, and I love how the images turn out the first time you stamp them. Sometimes, with other stamps, I have to stamp the image about 3-4 times before I like the final one but not with these PaperTrey Ink stamps.

Can you really have too many Thank You cards? I don't think so! I made this card a little more soft and delicate. I have always picked a Thank You card out with the persons, whom I'm sending it to, personality in mind so I have to make sure to have a little of every kind. I love these two colors together!

(I cut the photo corners out with my Cuttlebug and the stamp set Spiral Bouquet to stamp the flowers. I distressed the pink paper behind the flowers and then added the pink bow for the final touch!)

Wheeling it

I have been wanting to use my wheel stamp along with a new flower punch I got so I put the two together and this is what I came up with:

(I took about 20 pictures of this card and this is the best one I could get. I'll have to have my husband look at the camera tomorrow but I wanted to post this card anyway! The swirls that are stamped on the top of the card is a wheel stamp that i just love. Then I punched out some little flowers and put them on the swirls. The little message says "Absolutely Fabulous".)

Flower Spotlight

I haven't stamped in a couple of days because I kept telling myself that I couldn't stamp until my house was clean my house wasn't getting clean so I decided to forget about the "deal" I made (with myself!).
I wanted to try the spotlight technique using a flower stamp and I really liked how it turned out! It's very simple but the yellow spotlight just makes it bright and enjoyable to look at (at least for me :> )!

Mother's Day (again!)

I made another Mother's Day card!! I got a new stamp set that I absolutely love and wanted to try it out. Aren't the flowers great!!

(I used a round paper punch to punch out a circle of the designer paper to put in the middle of the flowers. The pink ribbon isn't really ribbon....hehehe!! It's a pink piece of paper that I stamped a zig-zag stamp on to make it look like ribbon.)

Praying

I was at my local craft store and found this stamp of the child praying in the clearance bin. The stamp is really large so I didn't know how well the image would actually turn out but it was so awesome!! I loved the stamp. I tried to be simple with my embellishments because I didn't want to take away from the picture.

(I stamped the image on white cardstock and then found a poem that I liked and printed it on vellum. I cut the poem out and placed it on top of the image and secured it on with black eyelets. I finished it off with the black and white ribbon at the bottom.)

Here's the poem that I used:

God, Make my life a little light, Within the world to glow;
A little flame that burneth bright, Wherever I may go.

God, make my life a little flower, That giveth joy to all,
Content to bloom in native bower, Although the place be small.

God, make my life a little song, That comforteth the sad,
That helpeth others to be strong, And makes the singer glad.

I was playing around with a dot stamp I have and ended up with this card. I was thrilled that the flowers fit right inside the dots and that I had ribbon to match these colors!

Scalloped Circle Frames

I was playing around with my card stuff and made this card. I'm not sure what I think of it but I thought I put it up on my blog. I think the idea is good but I don't know if I like the colors etc..

(I punched some scalloped circles out and used a little bit of adhesive to attach them to my white card stock. Then I sponges yellow and green ink all over the circles and paper, then I peeled the circles off. I used my die cutting machine and cut out these flowers and used a colored brad to attacht them in the middle of each scalloped frame.)

Boy bday card

I am trying to make a stash of Birthday cards so that when it's someone's bday I can just grab a card and send it. This bday card that I made would be for a young boy, I think.

(This is a tricky card to make because there is a lot of scoring and folding. It took me a couple of tries to get it just right. I didn't write down the exact measurements but I'll be making more of these so the next one I make, I'll write the measurements down and post it.)

(When you open the card the "Happy Birthday" sign pops up! It is so dang cute! I think one of my nephews will love this. )
